Materials
| •
|
Mahogany
- A pinkish wood when freshly cut acquires a deep warm brownish
red colour as it matures; it is of fine to medium texture with uniform
to interlocking grain ranging from straight to curly. Mahogany polishes
to a high luster, with excellent working and finishing characteristics
and is regarded by many as the world’s premier wood for fine
cabinetry and high class indoor furniture. |
| •
|
Teak - A light
coloured wood, Teak is extremely dense-grained and highly resistant
to rot, warping, shrinkage and swelling. Its high natural oil content
acts as a natural preservative to the wood, a quality that makes
teak both stable and resistant to climate extremes and the ultimate
choice for stable long lasting outdoor furniture. Changes in the
moisture content of the wood may result in the occasional appearance
of fine cracks in the end grain of heavier components i.e. legs
or arms however, such cracks are perfectly normal and will not affect
the life or serviceability of the furniture. |
| •
|
Pine - A soft
wood, usually white or pale yellow in colour with a very knotty
texture that is clearly exhibited regardless of whatever finish
is applied. |
| •
|
MDF; Medium
Density Board - A strong and stable manmade board comprising of
a homogeneous structure with uniformed texture and properties throughout.
There are no identifiable grains or knots and it is an ideal material
for use on items of furniture requiring a painted finish. |
| •
|
Plywood - This
was the first type of engineered wood to be invented and consists
of thin sheets of wood veneer glued together with the direction
of each ply’s grain differing from its neighbors by 90°
a process known as cross-banding. The most common reason for using
plywood instead of solid timber is its resistance to cracking, shrinkage
and warping coupled with its general high degree of strength. |
| • |
OSB; Oriented
Strand Board - This is a man made board comprising of strands of
timber formed together with a binding material under great heat
and pressure. OSB is very stable and adapts favorably to different
atmospheric conditions making it a satisfactory material used to
create high quality furniture frames. |
Finishes
| •
|
Painted
Furniture - This is an attractive alternative with patinas being
applied by hand thereby affording a uniquely individual appearance
to each item. Differences in finishes between each product are a
feature of painted furniture and should not be considered a defect.
It should be noted that over time painted furniture may develop
fine cracks over joints due to natural timber movement. |
| •
|
Stained Furniture
- This is a process used to accentuate the grain and colour of the
wood originally used to make the furniture. Different shades of
stain are available affording a range of lighter through to darker
overall colours. Dependant on the structure and age of the wood
i.e. mahogany, which darkens as it matures, there may be slight
fluctuations in shades. |
Cupboards
and Cabinets
| •
|
Products
with doors are manufactured to sit on level floors; if the doors
of any particular item do not hang correctly it generally means
that the floor is not level. Floor wedges or adjustable door hinges
/ feet will be supplied in order to combat this. |
